Indian cuisine has gained popularity internationally for a good reason. Nothing can defeat the rich flavors and aroma of the Indian dish Tandoori Chicken. It is one of the most popular dishes in not only the Indian subcontinent but also Europe and America.
We at Mehfil Indian Cuisine ensure to deliver you luscious and mouth-watering Tandoori Chicken with complete authenticity.
Taste of Tandoori Chicken
The taste of tandoori chicken is heavenly. It is the tender and juicy chicken that enlightens the entire dish along with the marination of the protein in Indian herbs and spices which are specifically hand-picked and grounded by the chef.
The secret to the succulently juicy chicken is that the chicken is marinated in Greek yogurt and lemon spiced marinade along with the Indian spices and herbs of several kinds of which some include:
- Garam masala
- Smoked paprika
- ground cumin
- Chilli powder
- Ground coriander
- Ground ginger
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
- Ground turmeric
- Cayenne pepper
And many more.
What makes this Tandoori chicken so authentic?
Every chef has their own method of marinating any kind of protein. May it be Chicken, beef, pork, shrimp, or even paneer. However, at Mehfil Indian Cuisine, we follow a different marinating method for every protein. This is because the ability of every meat to absorb the spices and flavors within is different. This is why at Mehfil Indian Cuisine we guarantee you an experience of a lifetime in each dish. You will relish the taste at the end of every bite.
With Chicken Tandoori, the marination of the chicken in chicken, lemon, and Indian spices along with herbs is left on the side for a while to allow the marination to soak within. Once the marinated chicken is ready to be grilled, it is prepared for further steps. However, we do not tend to use the Conventional Oven to grill our chicken. Instead, we use the Indian oven called the Tandoor – clay oven. When we grill our chicken in a tandoor, we are able to provide to you the smoky, grilled, and spicy taste that wants you, to want more!
WHERE DOES TANDOORI CHICKEN COME FROM?
Tandoori Chicken gets its name from the large bell-shaped coal or wood-fired clay ovens, called tandoors, in which the chicken is traditionally cooked. Originally, tandoors were used mostly for making naan/Indian flatbread. However, when the popularity of the tandoor started to spread like wide fire, people began to use it further.
The softness and the smoky taste of the naan bread was is achieved on a stove or by baking the Indian bread in an oven. It then came to a realization, how about if chicken and paneer and other proteins were grilled in a tandoor than a conventional oven?
And here we are now, appreciating the joy that every bite has made us feel!
What are spices used in Tandoori Chicken?
Most of the spices that we spoke about above are common for us when it comes to Indian dishes. However, there is this one spice we would like to mention and that is Garam Masala.
You might not be as familiar with garam masala but, it is a very common seasoning and can be found in every dish at Mehfil Indian Cuisine. It is a tantalizing combination of ground cumin, coriander, cardamom, black pepper, cinnamon, ground cloves, and nutmeg.
Our chef, hand picks these spices and ground them well and fine till a soft, tender, and even form of this spice is attained as this avoids the irregularity in the sizes of the different spices which could interfere with the taste and may get burnt quickly. After fine grinding, this mixture of spices is stored in a special airlock container for a certain amount of time till the flavors of each spice mix with each other. This helps to attain a fabulous dry rub on chicken, pork and fish, and even paneer.
WHAT CUT OF CHICKEN IS BEST FOR GRILLED TANDOORI CHICKEN?
For the JUICIEST Tandoori Chicken, we use leg quarters with the skin removed. Leg quarters are the whole chicken leg comprised of both a thigh and a drumstick in one piece. They have enough fat to stay moist when grilled at high heat and emerge so tender.
Tandoori Chicken is bursting with bold, smoky, and as-spicy-as-you-want-it flavors, super juicy, and is going straight to the “favorite” list. It makes a fabulous weeknight meal or a weekend getaway dinner.
